Wind resource assessment through WRF mesoscale model and FUROW: Madrid region´s wind map

This work aims to create a wind map at 80 m height of the Community of Madrid using FUROW, the most complete wind software of the market developed by SOLUTE Ingenieros. For this purpose, the wind speed and direction data at mesoscale size has been simulated using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model, and FUROW has been used to model the microscale wind field as the model is able to use mesoscale/reanalysis information to generate wind maps at a much finer resolution.

With the new season, a new stage has come for the most complete wind software of the market Furow.

Busy months

Last months have been very busy for Solute. We have organized and attended different events not only in our offices but also abroad. Besides, new projects and customers have reinforced the position of the company.

Solute in the Spanish Wind Congress

Last 22nd and 23rd of June took place the first Spanish Wind Congress. This event is the meeting point of the industry and it is called to be a worldwide reference wind event.

The celebration of the technical speeches took place in the hotel Melia Avenida de America and Solute was invited to present the most innovative issues of the new software Furow.

Furow´s course demonstration

FUROW (For Uncertainty Reduction of Wind) is the new software of analisys and meteorological data representation, wind resource assessment and micrositing developed by SOLUTE inside the ETSWIND project cofinanced by CDTI (Center for the Development of Industrial Technology).

This software is the main result of the strategical bet, for a wind resource assessment and micrositing department, done by the company six years ago.

WINDUR: Installation, measurement and assessment campaign of wind resource in urban environment

The WINDUR project, in which Solute is participating, is active and in due course. One of the activities developed up to now is the installation of meteorological masts to launch the wind measurement campaign in urban environment.

An historical approach to the Wind Energy

Navigation of the Mediterranean Sea began in Egypt more than 6.000 years ago, along the Nile River, down wind. Alongside the pyramids, buried sailboats were found, they were meant to help the buried pharaohs in their trip to the afterlife.

Thereafter, Egyptians started building ships which sail permitted the navigation against the wind, what permitted the maritime navigation.

Solute Ingenieros-NRG Patagonia: a new 1.5MW Wind turbine

Last year, the Argentinian Company NRG Patagonia with National University of Patagonia San Juan Bosco, presented a Project for the development of a high power wind turbine in the FITS Energy framework (Funds of Sectorial Energetic Technological Innovation). This funds are managed by the Science, Technological and Productive Innovation Minister through the National Agency of Scientific and Technological Promotion.

Lakes, a different scene for the offshore wind industry

Nowadays, principal areas for wind farms are at mainland and sea, increasing offshore projects. These locations have their own advantages and disadvantages, in terms of profitability, technical challenges and environmental impacts.

But there are other locations where this kind of technology is suitable for the exploitation of the  wind resource. In this post, we want to introduce an emplacement where there have been developed some projects and researches but is still in its beginnings.
