SOLUTE expands its wind measurement campaigns with SODAR to South America: first SODAR of Uruguay

SOLUTE expands its international projects regarding wind measurement campaigns by installing the first SODAR of Uruguay.

The equipment will be installed in the Department of San Jose, in the south of Uruguay, and about 100 km from the capital, Montevideo.

In this case, the device will be measuring in parallel to a 80 meters high met mast tower. SOLUTE will compare the data obtained by the SODAR with the met mast tower and will also carry out further measurements up to 250 meters high.

The aim of the project is to have a better understanding of the behavior of the wind at heights above the met mast tower since wind turbines of 100 meters hub height will be installed. Furthermore, there will be a reduction in the uncertainty in the extrapolation of the vertical wind profile.

Thanks to this campaign, it will be possible to determine the vertical wind profile along the full swept area of the rotor. This will also make it easier to have access to project financing.
